Meet Kai, Iris, Michelle & Nikolaj (🇩🇰)
Michelle and Nikolaj traveled full-time before having kids, where the first thoughts on creating a traveling village started to form.
While traveling full-time we were running a project called Refuga where we did retreats and adventure trips for over 500 entrepreneurs from over 40 different countries. The project taught us a lot about the value of community and since then we have always made community a part of our traveling. TV is a natural next step after Refuga and after having kids. There is a lot of things we learned from running Refuga that help shaped TV.
Planning everything from beautiful retreats in Spain and Morocco to trips to North Korea and Kilimanjaro, we have also grown a love for arranging unique experiences, working with local partners and just in general using the internet to meet amazing likeminded people and get things to happen in real-life.
Michelle and Nikolaj are both self-employed and have been so for over 10 years. Kai and Iris have always been home full-time and are going to be unschooled.
Michelle is very interested in the worklife of the future and is creating communities in Denmark for people who want more freedom and live a life more on their own terms. Nikolaj’s biggest passions outside of entrepreneurship is trail running.
Funny side story: One of the participants in Refuga, Lars (who actually ended up buying the business) was the person who connected us with Andy and Irene!
What do you miss about Traveling Village?
We definitely miss having the community just outside the door. There were so many magic moments, often just pretty simple thing. After we got home and into our more normal way of living in Denmark, we really started missing the rhythm, always having the community and just experiencing so much with a great bunch of people. If we could continue our travels with the exact same group today, we would take it :)
Why did you decide to continue working on TV after the first village?
It mostly just boils down to us as family dreaming of having this experience once again. Our biggest child often ask about the village and remembers thing. It was a very special time and we really want to do it again. At the same time we also really want to keep experimenting with creating new solutions for families that want a different kind of life. We think the lack of community nowadays is a huge problem and we think TV can create some great experiences, but also help people live a more intentional life.
What are you most excited about with TV3?
The whole excitement leading up to the trip and meeting everyone in real life after having know each other online for some time! That is definitely a an exciting element of the whole thing. After the initial phase, we are really just looking forward to the day to day life of the village. For us it’s the simple things, just walking around and soaking up where we are, randomly bumping into others from the village and those random conversations. Actually we can’t wait!
