Meet the Leerinks (🇳🇱)

Leerink's

Please introduce yourself; who are you, where are you from, where are you currently, what do you do for a living/currently? Please include kids’ ages on departure day.

We are Sido, Anita, Kady (10yo) and Luwan (8yo). In October 2022 we sold our house in the Netherlands, quit our jobs, and traveled Central America and Asia for 14 months. After that, we came back to the Netherlands and bought a tiny house. We love to have a place to come back to and see our family and friends. Our dream is to live here in the summertime and travel in the wintertime.

Why did you decide to get involved in this project?

Although we loved traveling for 14 months, our kids didn’t like it as much as we did. They missed playing with friends. While traveling you meet a lot of interesting people and we spend really fun days with them, but always just a day or maybe more. With this project, we hope our kids love to play with the same kids for 4 months and we will make a lot of interesting friends all over the world.

What kind of interests do you have?

We all love traveling (of course) and exploring new countries/cities/cultures. We are super happy when we are close to the ocean.

Anita loves photography.

Sido loves making drone movies.

K.ady loves all things crafty.

L.uwan loves all things physical activity.

Tell us some interesting random facts about you guys. Don’t hold back, this is your time to shine 🙂

We slept next to an active volcano (Acatanango hike in Guatemala).

We drove through Sri Lanka for 1 month with our rented tuk tuk.

Most of the times when we travel we book our accommodation when we are in the bus/boat/taxi a few hours before we arrive.

How do you educate your kids?

We homeschool them (worldschooling/unschooling).

What do you think will be the most difficult about this experiment?

To be with such a large group and find a good balance between community/work/family time/explore.

To have a planned itinerary for 4 months in advance.

Will you be working while we are traveling?

Yes, Sido will work.

What do you hope to learn or take away from joining this experiment?

Making friends all over the world.

Learning to slow travel.

Learning to build a community.
